Southies B
Southies Baseball was founded in 2018 when Charles Amante put together a squad of skilled 8-year-old players to compete in the Little League CA District 30 Machine Pitch Tournament, where they won the tournament championship. The name “Southies” was coined as an homage to the players’ home Little League (South Sunrise Little League in Orange, CA).
Seeing the potential in this young group of players, Amante and other SSLL coaches continued to coach the “Southies” over the next five years, completing their journey at the 2022 Cooperstown All Star Village International Tournament in Cooperstown, New York, where they finished 18th of the 60+ teams at the tournament.
Along the way, the Southies players developed and positively contributed to their respective SSLL regular-season and All-Star teams, winning the 2019 D30 Pool Play Tournament, 2021 D30 runners-up, and 2022 D30 semifinalists.
Today, most of the original Southies players continue to play baseball for top-caliber travel baseball teams and high-school feeder teams, proving that talented baseball players can remain in Little League and still develop as athletes without solely playing year-round travel baseball.
In Fall 2023, a new generation of 9u and 10u Southies began their journeys together, marching toward the same goal of improving as a club-caliber baseball player while simultaneously enjoying the fun and community of Little League Baseball.
